To celebrate the tenth anniversary of De Ketelfactory, we will not host a Distillation day, but a Distillation weekend! On Saturday the 11th and the afternoon of Sunday the 12th of May De Ketelfactory is fully present in the historic centre of Schiedam.
The distillation stil is a weekend filled with lectures, music and performances about silence. In two locations in Schiedam you will be met with a varied programme in which artists, musicians, writers and performers approach silence in unexpected ways. The programme is prompted by the exhibition by the same name at De Ketelfactory, which opens our eyes to silence beyond a mere absence of sound; to space, emptiness and time.
Saturday 11 May
At the Wennekerpand Shinto master Paul de Leeuw will speak on silence and you will hear Indian classical music performed by Ad Groot and Wim Bosman. Kester Freriks will interview Rob Vrakking, Olphaert den Otter will give a lecture on the silence of the universe and Florette Dijkstra will give an impossible lecture on silence. The programme will be interspersed with poetic and theatrical intermezzos by Ellen van Rossum and Cézanne Tegelberg, and lunch will be provided. We will finish the day with a drink.
Sunday 12 May
In the Westvest church you will hear compositions by Anthony Fiumara, performed by Aart Strootman and the composer himself. Maria Blaisse will speak about silence in her work and Arita Baaijens will tell us about the silence of the desert. The programme will be interspersed with poetic and theatrical intermezzos by Ellen van Rossum and Cézanne Tegelberg. The day will culminate in a silent walk through the Plantagepark, followed by a celebratory drink at De Ketelfactory.
